Appreciate//Be love//Be here now

Sunday, July 7, 2013

Right now the hubs is headed to the airport to say goodbye to one of our friends who passed away over the weekend. We're devastated, sad, spooked and holding on to our little family so tight right now. Our hearts hurt for the woman who loved him and lost him. The idea of losing one another is unfathomable and too painful to imagine. So we will try again, like we try every day, to appreciate the gift of one another, this life and family we built together and each day we get to enjoy it, side by side.

I snapped these photos on a recent, family, neighborhood walk and as I look at them now, with grief in my heart and new eyes, I'm struck by the simple beauty of the world that I often neglect from day-to-day. I want to be here now and be the love that my family needs. My hope is the same for you. Tell your loved ones that you do. Tell them. Hug them. Don't let today pass without giving that one simple gift. Because life is a fragile, beautiful, fleeting thing. And the only thing that matters in this life is love. And those people who touch our hearts and make it better.

Dedicated to Joel Magaziner.
We love you, buddy.

Thankful ~ My husband & My best friends

Sunday, November 4, 2012

Today is my gorgeous best friend, Jen's birthday. This also happens to be the week that the hubs and I will be celebrating four years of marriage. While looking through our wedding photos, I stumbled upon some snapshots of the night before the ceremony and was struck by just how lucky I am to have these three human beings in my life.

My husband has given me more than I could have ever imagined would be mine. He has given me a family. He has given me real, surrounding, tangible, daily love. The kind that looks back at you with innocent eyes and tiny beating hearts and faces that combine ours. A family. My family.

And my girls? Well, they've given me memories. Unforgettable, incredible times... and the kind of continued support that only a best friend can offer. You guys make me a better person.

Happy anniversary, Happy birthday, and thank you for being my little sis who became my rock.

With love,

T xx

Dempsey Sisters

Monday, August 6, 2012

I've been thinking a lot about how lucky I am to have the women that I do in my life... particularly my sisters. This shot was taken on my birthday, just a few months after I had my little Stella.

I love this pic because it captures each of us in such a happy and defined way:

Me, the actress turned designer/stylist/mommy.
Mandy, the singer/songwriter/mommy.
Lisa, the makeup artist/hair dresser/painter.
Leah, the ditto, ditto, ditto (they're twins, and rock the industry like no others.)
All of us, so alike in so many ways, yet so different too.

Although it's rare that we all find ourselves in the same place at the same time these days, my sisters and I always find a way to come together when it means the most.

In milestones. Babies being born. Big birthdays celebrated. Heartbreak and tears. Joy beyond belief. Fresh starts.

This photo reminds me that no matter what is going on in life, no matter how different our lives may be, how many times we may have argued or hurt one another... how many miles, opinions, thoughts, or differences may come between us from time to time... we will always have each other. We will be connected in a way that nobody else can ever take from us. Especially when it's needed the most.

I love you, my beautiful sissies. And I can't wait to share another big milestone with you... the birth of my son.

My Moroccan Baby Shower

Monday, July 9, 2012

My amazing friend turned her garden into a Moroccan oasis to celebrate the upcoming arrival of my little man! It was stunning, and so much fun. And I was reminded, once again, how blessed I am to have such wonderful women in my life.
I wore a Calypso St. Barth dress {available here.}
One of my gifts was a maternity photo shoot, which included some painted belly shots, courtesy of my makeup artist sis!
My peeps all joined in on the fun, and dressed in fabulous boho fashion.
It was so fun to see each girls' interpretation of the theme.
My girl, Priscilla rocking a killer kaftan {avail here}, and Noa (from Sunset & 5thshaking things up vintage style, of course!
A mouthwatering menu was perfectly complimented with Lorenza Rose...
And the sentimental messages written from my pals, to my future baby boy, had me weepy and so touched.
Even my cake (courtesy of another amazing sister!) was colorful and perfect!
 Just like my day.
I love you all! Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my giant belly.

Happy Birthday to me! (My year in snapshots)

Monday, December 19, 2011

Today I'm going to celebrate by not working, staying far away from the computer, and taking it as easy as possible. (And if I'm lucky, a massage, a mani/pedi and a birthday song might happen too!)

In the meantime, a toast to all the things that matter to me... a celebration in snapshots from this past year.
To my family... my true north.
To the little things...
And the big things too...
To the creating, the collaborating, the travel and gigs...
To doing what I love... and having it mean something.
To living vicariously... and learning every day.
To loving what I have... and having all that I need.

Thank you to every single person in my life who makes it all worthwhile. It's funny how I used to dread getting older, and now I realize, as the moments pile up behind me, how much richer and fuller and better my life is becoming with every passing year.

Here's to GROWING gracefully!

With love,

Tanya Dempsey - Allure Magazine? (November suddenly not so grey)

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

OK, I have to let the cat out of the bag. I've been getting several emails and questions about being on the cover of the November issue of Allure Magazine, ever since I made it my profile picture on FB and blogger...
The answer is no. This is a fictitious magazine cover. I took part in a "model shakedown" party, where everyone tries to "out model" one another. It really is the BEST time EVER. The winning prize is a "magazine cover" our photographer deems worthy of the winning shot.

The best part? (Well, aside from WINNING!) was that I got to play model and stylist, and everyone was wearing our redesigned clothing. {That produced these amazing shots herehereherehere.}

You must read the magazine titles above. You'll be cracking up all day.

Calypso Lydia Wrap Top & Cords

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Best Necklace Combo Ever: Gold Leaf from sis + Bridesmaid Bean Necklace from Best Friend + Gold Stella Necklace from other best friend (gift on the day Stella was born) + Silver & Gold heart Necklace from the hubs (also when Stella was born)
Beyond in love with my newest Calypso piece. It's the most delicate and feminine top I have ever owned. I'm obsessed with the lace detailing on the shoulders. It's so me.

Paired with cords, a stack of my favorite (and most sentimental) necklaces, and a redesigned vintage Secondhand Star vest.

Top - Calypso
Cords - Juicy
Sunglasses - Cheap Monday

P.S. - Shout out to my hairdresser, Shiri at Chaz Dean Studio! In addition to being religious about only using Wen cleansing conditioner lately, I left my hair in her hands and she gave me the best cut & color ever! Thank you! (*I also used my hot roller trick here*)
