Pregnancy - 40 weeks!

Friday, August 31, 2012

Can you believe it? I'm officially 40 weeks! But the doc has given me a couple of different due dates, so they won't consider me overdue until September 10th. (eek!)
So, I've been doing more hanging out at home than being out and about these days...Well, scratch that. I've been out (trying to walk this baby outta me!) but less dressing up and more just trying to make it through and keep busy during these final days. The past week has been a bit torturous, if you ask me. I'm on pins and needles, not knowing when this baby is going to come and it has made me a bit nutty. I've shopped and cleaned and organized everything to death. And THEN SOME. I'm ready. Just hoping little man is too, before he goes into serious overtime and turns into a ten pound baby! (double eek!)

Hope you're enjoying the beauty posts. Forgive me if I disappear a bit next week. (Fingers crossed it's due to a fast, easy and beautiful delivery!)

Wish me luck!

Drugstore scores! 69¢ Lips + Waterproof Mascara

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Ladies, I couldn't do a beauty week without sharing a super thrifty find or two ... And this one makes me absolutely giddy!

Major drugstore scores! ~ Wet n' Wild lip liner! I'm serious. Wet n' Wild! I snatched a couple up the other day because they were on sale for mere pennies (original price 99¢ down to 69¢!), not expecting much at all. Would you believe the color is to die?! I also found my new fave waterproof mascara!

Haven't worn Wet n' Wild since Jr. High? Give this baby a try. I'm totally obsessed. I filled in the entire lip to create a matte lipstick and it's a really classic, red-red. Pump it up with another drugstore fave of mine, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in "Love That Red" (Currently out of stock, but I found it for you on Amazon
here.)

I've also been on the hunt for a good waterproof mascara, so on the same trip, I decided to give Almay's one-coat thickening mascara  a go. It's also a winner! Super feathery and light, creating subtle, yet bold lashes that didn't budge or flake all day. I simply swiped it off with Almay makeup remover pads at the end of the night. (Baby oil or Vaseline also does the trick!)

Happy, thrifty shopping, loves! xx

GlamGlo Video - A demo by {my sisters} The Judo Twins

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

As promised, the first video installment for my baby sisters' YouTube beauty tutorial channel, The Judo Twins.

One week using GlamGlo and I'm already a fan. It's an all natural mud mask that not only awakens the collagen to improve the texture of the skin, but helps to correct discoloration due to the sun or other elements (or in my case, pregnancy!) I promise to post some before and after pictures of my skin very soon. It's that good!

In the meantime, enjoy the video, read the reviews for yourself and stay tuned for a special Glam Glow giveaway exclusively for November Grey readers!

Hi guys! I was so happy when my sis, Tanya asked me to do a guest post about some of my favorite products, that I'm going to make it short and sweet by giving you my ultimate top two at the moment!

I'm going to let you in on a little secret of mine... The first step to a perfect face should always be protecting it. Oh, and my new found September swoon?...

The seamless touch of lovliness. It works on so many different complexions and gives a flushed, romantic color to the cheeks. A must try!

There you have it! A beautiful base to build your makeup look upon!

Lisa Dempsey Makeup

Monday, August 27, 2012

Happy Monday, friends! I wanted to dedicate this week to all things beauty related, and what better way to kick it off than with a post dedicated to my beautiful sis, professional makeup artist, Lisa Dempsey.
Pictured here, in her element, with her signature makeup look and floppy hat... it's easy to see that this girl has style.

Not only is she truly beautiful inside and out, but her talent for hair and makeup is off-the-chain. I barely trust anyone else to touch my face when I have an important event. She's that good.

And now that celebs have started to request her personally, I can't help but realize that it was such a gift to have had the opportunity bring her along as my personal makeup artist when I was in the acting game.

Wanna know something even cooler? She's an identical twin, the other half of The Judo Twins, a YouTube channel dedicated completely to my little sisters, both hair and makeup artists, rocking tutorials like no others.

Check out her website lisadempsey.net to see all of the fun stars and events she's worked on recently and stay tuned for a video tutorial, a guest post and even more collaborations with November Grey!

Wooden Bangles

Sunday, August 26, 2012

Oh, how I love my wooden bangles. Awesome alone, or piled up together. Some of my favorites are precious hand-me-down's, but I always seem to score the most interesting and unique via thrift shopping. Usually just a few bucks each.

Happy hunting, loves. xx

Dear Stella

Thursday, August 23, 2012

It seems like only 5 minutes ago that you were this small... My tiny, chubby, yummy little baby. How does the time get away from us this way? How did you grow to be so big, so fast? I'm so proud of you already. You are kind and smart and strong and funny... and you make my heart glow and melt and burst with happiness on a daily basis.

As the time gets closer (and closer and closer) to the arrival of your little brother, I want you to know something... you will always be special. You will always be my first. You will always be my precious little girl, no matter how big, or old, or grown-up you get. Nothing and no one will ever take my love away from you. My love will just get bigger (and bigger and bigger) to fit around the four of us.

This I can promise you.

Like the song I sing to you at night, the one I wrote to you when you were in my belly...

Baby Stella, baby Stella, baby Stella
She is the one
Baby Stella, baby Stella, baby Stella
We're gonna have so much fun
We're gonna laugh
We're gonna play
We're gonna sing and dance
all day
I love you
A lot right now

39 weeks - Italian Food + A belly that won't pop!

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

I've been trying my best to be patient, guys. But I just want this little dude outta my belly already and into my arms.  Is that so wrong? This heatwave in Cali has been killing me, almost as much as the anticipation.
On Friday morning we had a false alarm that had me in the hospital, all geared up and ready to go. I was sent back home with the reassurance that I would likely be back that night or the next morning to deliver.

Well, it's Wednesday and I'm still chalk-full of baby. So rather than sitting at home and feeling like the human version of a ticking time bomb, I had the hubs take me and our little love out to dinner last night - Italian style.
Something about the warm marinara comfort food and the cozy atmosphere had me feeling much better and more at peace about things. I suppose it will just happen when it's supposed to happen.

Or maybe that was just the glass of chianti speaking that I happily indulged in...

What? I think the Italians would have approved.

Wish me luck!

xx
If you're ever in the Venice Beach area,
try C&O Trattoria for some seriously good Italian food.

Skinny Trick - Mix it with water!

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Don't ever "drink" your calories, ladies. I've had this rule FOREVER. Wouldn't you rather use those precious calories up on food anyway? You'd be surprised how much sugar and daily calories are taken up this way.
If you love your juice and lemonade like I do, always, ALWAYS mix it with water - at least half and half.
As I'm about to pop, and heading into OHMYGODIHAVETOLOSETHISWEIGHT territory, I thought I'd share some tips and tricks that have been on my mind lately.

My favorite chocolate Skinny Trick here!

I guess inspiration runs in the family...

Off to the doc! Maternity look 38 weeks!

Friday, August 17, 2012

I'm not going to tell you how much weight I've gained in total, but a visit to the doc yesterday had me rethinking my daily dose of meatball sandwich. I try not to focus on such nonsense, knowing I'll get back to pre-pregnancy shape by my birthday in December (that's my goal anyway)... but I did have the nurse check the numbers twice. (Something must be wrong with your scale!)
I guess there are more important things to focus on, like the (almost 7lb!) healthy little dude inside my belly. Apparently he's not ready to come this week, and we have a little itty bit left to go. Trying to hang on, hang in and still put some jewelry and makeup on once in a while...

These bits came off upon immediate entrance to my house, however. I type to you barefoot and in a topknot! Hope you have a fabulous weekend. xx

A Butterfly Birthday Party - Stella turns 3!

Thursday, August 16, 2012

{The Dress}
I found this adorable dress via Zulily (a fabulous kids designer sample sale site - invite here) and it set the tone for all of her "Butterfly Princess" wishes. It lasted a mere 10 minutes before it was whipped off and replaced by her yellow butterfly bikini though!
{The Decorations}
I scored these fun paper lanterns at Target, that I hung up with invisible wire to add a little color to the outdoor space... (Not pictured were matching napkins and plates. We hung these in her room after the party and she loves it!)
{The Activities}
I collected green and pink sand buckets that I labeled for each mini guest in permanent marker. It was so fun to watch them search out their names.
I also managed to find butterfly fairy wings at Target for around $2 each, a much better option than trying to make them myself. The munchkins were encouraged to put on some wings and join in on an obstacle course in the sand!
I could not get over how adorable the kiddos looked fluttering around by the water. Even the little guys played along.
Snacks and refreshments included mini butterfly sandwiches (a simple cookie cutter will do) and pirate's booty butterfly snack bags (pictured in this post here.)
{The Cake}
I had originally planned to bake the cake, but decided to give my (pregnant) self a break, and buy a sheet cake that would feed the crowd. (For the record, the guest list was bigger than our wedding. Yes, we had a tiny destination venue of 40 people, but still.)
I decided to order the cake with plain icing so I could paint the butterfly design on myself. I found a super simple tip (online here) to keep it from becoming a free-hand disaster!
  • Search online for the clip art that you want.
  • Enlarge it into a Word document for the sizing you need, depending on the cake. Print it out.
  • Get decorative black gel icing (found in most supermarkets) and trace the image on the actual sheet of paper.
  • Once the outline is complete, turn the paper over onto the cake and press down lightly.
  • When you remove the paper, the image will appear in black icing on the cake.
  • Fill in the lines with colored icing and decorate with candy goodies! All done!
The party was such a whirlwind, that I didn't get a chance to photograph it all! But it was a lovely day with lovely people, celebrating the little love of my life, and I simply could not have accomplished everything without the help of my beautiful sis, Lisa, Stella's wonderful Godmother, Annabel, good ol' gramps and my amazing hubs. You know what they say... "it takes a village" and I'm lucky to have you guys.

Happy birthday, baby girl. xx

My Maternity Photo Shoot

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

You may remember getting a sneak peek here and at my baby shower here, but due to several requests, (and even at the risk of getting too racy for the blogging world!) I thought I'd share a few of my personal faves from my maternity photo shoot.
If you're lucky enough to have an extremely talented photographer friend like I have, (check out her site here!) then capturing these types of shots are a breeze. It also helps to be in the comfort of your own home.
In honor of my Moroccan Baby Showermy makeup artist sis drew a design (free hand!) on my belly and I loved the result. The shots turned out a little a lot sexier than what I had done with Stella a few years back, but I'm glad I did it!

My little guy will either be red-faced embarrassed about it when he's older, or think his mom is super cool. (Let's hope for the latter!)
We did still manage to capture some traditional and sweet family photos...
A slice of our life and home...
Just waiting for the next addition.
Ain't love grand?
